Smithsonian Traveling Photography Exhibit Depicts China in Transition
Separated from the West by thousands of miles and seemingly insurmountable cultural barriers, China has long been an unfamiliar, romanticized land - until recently. In the new exhibition "Documenting China: Contemporary Photography and Social Change," the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service (SITES) partners with Bates College Museum of Art in Lewiston, Maine, to explore the social change in the most populous nation on earth.
Focusing on the impacts of urbanization and industrialization in China, the exhibition of documentary photographers opens at the Barrington Area Historical Society at 212 West Main Street, Barrington, IL on Saturday, September 16, 2006, hours will be Monday through Saturday 10:00 am to 4 pm and Sunday 12 pm to 4 pm. Admission for Adults $5.00, Seniors $3.00 and Students/Children $2.00. “Documenting China” will remain on view through November 5, 2006 before continuing on a national tour through 2009. This exhibition has been made possible through the generous support of Crystal Cruises.

Diana Walker:
Photojournalist Exhibition
Amid a comprehensive collection of photographs spanning 25 years, photographer Diana Walker has captured the essence of historic moments, bringing the public face to face with such important notable figures as American presidents, foreign dignitaries and political activists. Now the public has an opportunity to view 83 selected photographs and nine magazine covers in a traveling exhibition, Diana Walker: Photojournalist, when it premiers at The Arkansas Arts Center in Little Rock on November 19, launched a three-year national tour. The exhibition will be hosed by the Barrington Area Historical Society January 30 – March 26, 2006.
